Havelock London was founded in 2017 by Matthew Beddall and Neil Carter as a dedicated value investing boutique.
Matthew is the majority owner of Havelock London, and is responsible for managing the WS Havelock London Global Select Fund. He was motivated to start the fund by a belief that the shrinking pool of true long-term value investors was creating opportunity for those left remaining. Prior to this, Matthew was Chief Investment Officer at the Winton Group where he worked for seventeen years and had responsibility for overseeing the firm's investment activities and flagship fund. During his tenure Winton grew to have more than $30 billion in assets, making it one of Europe’s largest hedge funds. Matthew holds a degree in Mathematics and Computer Science, a master’s degree in Applied Statistics, and is an alumni of the Harvard Advanced Management Program.
Neil started his career at Fidelity before spending over 13 years at Jupiter Asset Management in a variety of roles including Head of Strategy for Global Financial Institutions. His motivation for co-founding a boutique asset manager was informed by his Executive MBA dissertation focused on rebuilding client trust in financial services.
Matthew and Neil work alongside Senior Equity Analyst - Louis Jamieson, Investment Analyst - Chris Fletcher, Head of Operations & Compliance - Russell Wild and Software Engineer - Max Pike. The team spend the working week together in their London Paddington office.
